SCNA Elects Officers for 2017-2018
Congratulations to elected new SCNA Officers:
Chair: Holly Constant, Vice Chair: Jeffrey Strand, Treasurer: Pam Owens, Secretary: Larry Bontreger
Many thanks from all of us at SCNA!
Ms. Owens started volunteering and became an SCNA Board member in 2008 and stepped into the role as Chairperson in 2013 after resident Brock Hanson’s term as chair was ending.
She was the first woman chairperson for SCNA since its inception in 1991 and in her four years as chair, she and SCNA’s accomplishments are many.
She grew SCNA by establishing a partnership with PHS Herobotics, and established the STEAM EXPO and helped them in growing their national efforts. SCNA also partnered and supported the local schools with much needed supplies to help over 600 local elementary school children.
SCNA championed the revitalization of a major neighborhood asset, a shuttered public elementary school in the neighborhood. With Council President Johnson and Mpls Public School’s help, SCNA helped advocate for a new charter school tenant, KIPP Academy, to bring the school building back to life. SCNA also advocated for reinvigorating development along the Humboldt Greenway to help all residents’ property values in the community. SCNA celebrated and partnered with the Camden Care Center and delivered a three-wheeled bike for increased activity for their residents.
With Ms. Owens leadership SCNA always focused on growing! Growing partnerships, people, and the community. Along with their annual events of the Shingle Creek Clean Up and Tour de Camden, they helped beautify the Olson Middle School Atrium garden, and grow the Common Ground Community Garden. And by continuing to partner with Victory Neighborhood Association on Holiday on 44th, SCNA is also helping grow the successful Tiny Fields project.
We greatly appreciate Ms. Owens leadership and dedication to improving the Shingle Creek neighborhood and SCNA! Thank you!
Save the date! Tour de Camden July 15!
